Jaguars sweep GB titles at Barrie North
It was a good night to be a St. Joseph's Jaguar.
Both the junior and senior boys basketball teams from the Barrie school took home Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA) 'AA' titles on Friday in front of a raucous crowd at Barrie North.
The juniors took down the Twin Lakes Thunderbirds, 55-34, in the afternoon semifinal, while the senior Jags eliminated Midland's Georgian Bay Bears, 61-41, to reach the final.
The GBSSA championship tilt saw the Jags take on the Huntsville Hoyas in both the junior and senior games.
The juniors rode the hot shooting of Spencer Regan and Skeets Green to run out to an early 20-point lead and would never look back, winning 59-46.
Regan led all scorers with 23 behind six treys, while Green chipped in 13 points and Braeden Walsh added 12.
In the senior final, the Jags punched their ticket to 'AA' OFSAA tournament with a convincing 72-53 victory over the Huntsville Hoyas. St. Joseph's led 17-16 after one quarter, and by 10 at half.
The Jags would eventually pull away behind a 27-point fourth quarter.
St. Joseph's was led by Brett Castellani with 27 points, followed by Zech Jagohmahan with 26 points and Noah Ulett with 15.
St. Joseph's will represent the Georgian Bay region at the 'AA' provincial championships to be held in Sault Ste Marie, March 6-8.
