Zapraszamy to the Victorian European Bakery and Deli.
That’s Polish for ‘welcome’. The Victorian European Bakery opened in May at 7 George St., beside the Army, Navy and Air Force Club. Opening a European bakery was a logical move for owner Marzena Kupiecki.
“I’m a pastry baker from Poland,” said Kupiecki, who has lived in Barrie for a couple of years.
The baked goods include cakes, cheesecake, cookies, Polish donuts, rolls, buns and a bakery specialty, custard cake.
“They go very fast,” said Kupiecki. Breads include rye, flax, sour dough, Parisian, whole wheat and more.
There is a deli section, featuring sausages, ham, bacon and kiebasa, along with specialty Polish cheeses, such as smoked cheese. Every day, there is a hot table for takeout meals which can include perogies, cabbage rolls, goulash, dumplings, soup, crepes with cream cheese, chicken, pork chops and meatballs. Like the bread, everything is made by Kupiecki. She hopes to have a few tables and an eating area soon.
The establishment also has a large variety of Polish groceries, candy and even magazines. The Victoria European Bakery is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Catering is available.
