Ontario Bill 95

John Layton

By John Layton

Letter to the editor.
The federal government just got through apologising to First Nations communities for violations of civil rights in scooping up native children and sticking them in residential schools, all without parental consent. The provincial government is about to pass legislation which in effect would repeat this travesty, . Bill 95, under the guise of filling in gaps in mental health, gives government agencies the right to commit for assessment and treatment anyone deemed to be at risk mentally: addicts, overactive children, and forgetful seniors, could be scooped up and incarcerated without their or parental consent. Just another brick in the wall of government control under the pretext of a "caring" big brother.
