A dramatic tactical unit takedown Friday evening resulted in the apprehension of a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the slaying of a Malton teen.

QMI Agency has learned after an extensive police investigation that Christopher Raphael, described as a member of the Galloway Boys street gang in Toronto — and who sources say was on bail for a firearms charge — was tracked to Barrie.

"We had tremendous assistance from Barrie police," said Peel Regional Police Insp. Norm English.

Barrie police Sgt. Rob Burke said he could not release any details about the incident, including where and when the takedown took place.

"It's Peel Region homicide — it's their case," Burke said Friday night.

Raphael was taken into custody and will appear in the Brampton court Saturday morning to be officially charged with the first-degree-murder of 17-year-old Adrian Ducas, who was shot to death at the Malton Community Centre July 3 after a basketball game.

He is the fifth arrest in connection with this slaying and the fourth to be charged with first-degree murder.

Kevaughn Tulloch, 20, of Toronto, and Maurice Raphael, 23, of Scarborough, Courtney Dawkins, 19, were earlier charged with first-degree murder and Cassandra Elizabeth Scavone, 20, with accessory after the murder.

Upon arriving at 3540 Morning Star Dr. in Mississauga around 8:30 p.m. on July 3, Peel Regional Police had a murder scene but everyone responsible had left of the region's fourth homicide of this year.

All but this last wanted man had been arrested, police said.

Already on bail for another alleged crime, Raphael, 20 — also known as "Shakes" — of Scarborough had been elusive, police said. Investigators had warned that anyone aiding and abetting him would also face charges.

"This investigation is continuing," said English. "Anyone with information is asked to call homicide and there are at least two others who assisted suspects in evading apprehension and they can expect a visit from us soon."

Sadly, a student at Ascension of Our Lord Secondary School, Ducas was had been playing basketball before a fight broke out and police said they believed he was not the intended target of the gunfire.
