Pitching was the difference on Saturday, as the Barrie Baycats swept their doubleheader with the Ottawa Fat Cats in the nation's capital.

Lefty Brad Bissell led the way in the first game, allowing just two hits over six shutout innings, as the Baycats won 6-0. Bissell struck out six batters and served up two walks, setting things up for Jas Shergill, who got the last three outs in a perfect final inning that included two strikeouts.

Matt Richardson was a sparkplug for Barrie, ripping two hits and driving in a run. Barrie led 3-0 after one inning and never looked back, as Jordan Lundberg had two hits and scored twice, Ryan Spataro had two hits and scored once, and Stevie Lewis had a pair of hits.

Matt Hummell started for Ottawa, allowing five runs -- two earned -- on eight hits to go along with two strikeouts and a walk. Chris Latimer and Kyle Barclay had hits for the Fat Cats.

In Game 2, Adam Hawes

up picked

where Bissell

left off, pitching a complete-game two-hitter to propel the visitors to a 2-0 win. Hawes struck out eight batters and walked one, as Barrie scored single runs in the first and fifth innings. Hawes survived a nerve-wracking final inning, as Barrie made a pair of errors before getting the final out.

Matt McGovern took the loss for Ottawa, going 6 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Jonathan Baksh had three hits and scored twice for the Baycats in the second game, while Lundberg had three hits and an RBI.

With the wins, Barrie improved to a league-best 13-3, moving two full games ahead of second-place Brantford.
