(STAFF) -- Four men now want to be Barrie's next mayor.

Irtaza (Harry) Ahmed has registered for the Oct. 25 municipal election, which also elects city councillors and school trustees for Barrie.

Ahmed joins former Barriearea MPP Joe Tascona, former mayor Rob Hamilton and current Ward 2 Coun. Jeff Lehman in the mayor's race.

Dave Aspden, the current mayor, has not registered to run in the city election, nor has he made his intentions known publicly.

Races are also shaping up in some, but not all, of Barrie's 10 wards.

The city's Ward 1, held by Coun. Mike Ramsay, has only Kevin Richards registered to represent the area.

Rose Romita and Lynn Strachan, current Ward 5 councillor, have registered to run in Ward 2, while in Ward 3 the candidates are incumbent Coun. Rod Jackson and Doug Shipley.

In Ward 4, Patrick Hebert has thrown his hat in the ring. Veteran incumbent Barry Ward has not registered.

Michael Tuck and Peter Silveira have registered as candidates in Ward 5.

Coun. Michael Prowse is running for re-election in Ward 6, while Steven Mallon is challenging incumbent Coun. John Brassard in Ward 7.

Ward 8, which is held by Coun. Jerry Moore, has no registered candidates.
