City pushing for cash?

(Re: City pushing for cash to fund bigger Barrie, Funding request to province has gone unanswered, in the Nov. 21 edition of the Examiner)

I’m a bit confused.

The City of Barrie wanted the 5,664 acres of Innisfil land and when it couldn’t be settled locally, got Barrie MPP Aileen Carroll involved.

Without too much further ado and political help,

Barrie got most of what it asked for.

This land transfer was mandated by the province and now the city is requesting taxpayers’ money to service this land.

As residents of Innisfil, our municipal taxes will certainly rise in the future due to this land grab by Barrie and in a small way, we will also be asked to contribute through our provincial taxes to pay for this development.

There’s something wrong with this picture.

How much study did the city do prior to asking for

all of this land to expand Barrie? I am sure the developers, who I believe were at the forefront of this

situation, will be laughing all the way to the bank.

I doubt it will happen, but I would like to see the provincial government tell Barrie to somehow figure out how it is going to pay for servicing this land

grab itself.

I might be a bit naive, but perhaps the city was hoping against hope to acquire Georgian Downs to pay

for this project and when that didn’t happen, somehow, the funds came up very short.

No more help should be sought from other residents in

Simcoe County to assist Barrie to expand.
