Cash coming to upgrade Eastview Arena

Some cash appears to be coming for upgrades at Eastview Arena.

Barrie MP Patrick Brown and MPP Aileen Carroll are making a joint announcement

this afternoon at the arena, one of the city's oldest.

In February, it was announced the city would submit an application to the Recreational Infrastructure in Canada (RInC) program, a $500-million, onetime funding opportunity announced last month in the federal budget.

Barrie -- which Brown says could be the first municipality to submit its proposal -- would be eligible for about $1.5 million. Federal funding must be matched by the city.

The fund was recently used to make way for a new artificial outdoor rink.

Eastview Arena was the other project on the list.
