The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s volleyball teams hosted the visiting La Cite Coyotes on Sunday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) action.

Georgian’s men’s team has been a determined and focused group all season and that continued on Sunday.

The Grizzlies were impressive, sweeping the Coyotes in three straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-20 to pick up their sixth-straight win to open the season.

Jordi Romero (Brampton) had an excellent game with 10 kills to go along with two blocks and an ace to lead Georgian with 13 points. Ryan DeBruyn (Ottawa) had five kills and four aces while Darien Haynes (Barrie) had seven kills as well as a block and an ace.

Georgian sits on top of the OCAA’s East Division standings with three more wins than anyone else in the division.

It was a great bounce-back game for Georgian’s women’s team as they made quick work of the Coyotes sweeping them in three sets 25-9, 25-21 and 25-16.

Quinn McGregor (Lindsay) had a big game with a team-high 11 kills while also scoring an ace and a block. Barrie native Kelsey Watson was strong once again for the Grizzlies with an 11-point effort from six kills, three blocks and two aces.

The win pulls Georgian to .500 on the season at 3-3 and they sit in fifth place in the OCAA’s East Division standings.

The Grizzlies will be back in action next Saturday when the host the Fleming Knights at the Georgian Athletic Centre with the women’s game at 1 p.m. and the men’s at 3 p.m.
