Grizzlies face Fleming for bronze on Saturday in Barrie
The Georgian Grizzlies men’s rugby team will take on the Fleming Knights on Saturday afternoon in Barrie with the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) bronze medal on the line.
The game is set for 1 p.m. at J.C. Massie Field, located at the Georgian College campus in Barrie.
The Grizzlies fell last weekend to the St. Lawrence Vikings, while Fleming lost to the Sheridan Bruins.
This year’s bronze-medal game will be a rematch of last year’s OCAA gold-medal game, which the Grizzlies won in a close battle, 19-14, in Peterborough. But this time Georgian has home-field advantage.
The game also features the two teams who finished in first place in their respective divisions, but lost in the semifinals. Fleming sported a 5-1 record in the regular season this year, while Georgian was dominant at 6-0, the only undefeated squad in the nine-team loop.
Georgian will be looking for a men’s rugby medal for the third-straight year, something that has never happened in school history. The Grizzlies have earned gold and silver in each of the last two seasons.
The Knights would also like to repeat as a medallist for the second-straight season.
Something will have to give between the two teams as one team will go away empty-handed.
Tickets to the bronze-medal game at J.C. Massie Field are $10 at the doors.
In the gold-medal game, Sheridan will host St. Lawrence at noon on Sunday at Sheridan Stadium on the Trafalar campus in Oakville
