SPRINGWATER TWP. (STAFF) – An Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) pre-hearing on Tuesday related to the proposed expansion of a gravel pit operation near Centre Vespra has once again been rescheduled.
A previous pre-hearing had been slated to take place in September 2016 after township councillors denied an application in January 2016 for a zoning-bylaw amendment by the owners of the Eek Pit to expand the aggregate operation onto nearby lands.
After their application was denied, John Eek and Sons (1194233 Ontario Limited) then filed an appeal to the OMB.
After the postponement of Tuesday’s OMB pre-hearing, a third prehearing has been scheduled for June 12.
At a pre-hearing, the OMB will consider the list of parties and participants able to take part in a full OMB hearing, if the hearing is deemed necessary.
Members of the residents group People vs. Pits in Centre Vespra have concerns about the gravel pit expansion, including non-compliance of the required distance between the proposed pit and existing residences, increased gravel truck traffic, possible environmental risks to air and water quality as well as possible decreased property values.
