Innisfil man facing 5 charges

INNISFIL – A man was arrested after his girlfriend told police she had been assaulted and forcibly confined earlier in November.

At the urging of a friend, South Simcoe police said a woman told officers she had been assaulted twice and prevented from leaving a house, as well as having her cellphone taken to prevent her from calling for help.

Police went to a man's home and he surrendered following a brief, peaceful standoff.

After his arrest, police determined the man was also facing domestic violence charges in another city with a different victim.

A 40-year-old Innisfil man was charged with two counts of assault, forcible confinement and two counts of failing to comply with the conditions of his release.

He was held for a bail hearing.
