Markham woman charged with neglect

ESSA TWP. - Two horses had to be put down by a veterinarian after police received numerous public calls about their health and well-being.

On Sunday Nottawasaga OPP were called to a 5th Line farm and officers determined the standard of care for the horses was inadequate.

A veterinarian specializing in horses was called and determined the animals had been neglected for some time, and were in extreme pain.

They were euthanized, OPP said.

A 44-year-old Markham woman was charged with two counts of animal neglect and one count of mischief under $5,000.

She was given an appearance notice for Monday in a Bradford court.
