After wet and rainy conditions cut the Georgian Grizzlies first golf tournament of the season short, the men’s and women’s teams returned to action as they hosted the Georgian Invitational at the Heritage Hills Golf Club in Barrie on Thursday.
More than 70 collegiate golfers took part in the event in what turned out to be a good showing for the Grizzlies.
Georgian’s Matt Lemay picked up where he left off last season, winning the individual men’s competition by shooting a round of 66 to win the tournament by three strokes.
Lemay’s performance also helped lead the Grizzlies to the men’s team title as he combined with teammates Jon Collins, Josh Lynch and Mitch Ahrens for a score of 289.
The Humber Hawks team finished in second with a team score of 290 and the Niagara Knights came in third with a score of 294.
Georgian also had success on the women’s side, as Addison Wallwin won the women’s individual title shooting a round of 74.
Teammate Chloe Wells was also impressive tying for third place with Sheila McKeen from Humber with matching rounds of 78.
Both the men’s and women’s golf teams will hit the road as they participate in the Niagara College Invitational on Monday at the Hunters Pointe Golf Course in Welland.
This will be the Grizzlies final tune up prior to the 2016 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Golf Championships presented by belairdirect which will be hosted by Georgian at the National Pines Golf Club in Innisfil from Oct. 3-5.
