A group of organizations helped out the Barrie Food Bank Saturday by stuffing 12 Beetles full of donations.

The 4th annual Community Food Drive - Fill the Beetle was held at Best Western Royal Oak Inn on Hart Drive.

Partners in the event included Nerds on Site and Volkswagen Barrie.

Organizations taking part included: Barrie Athletic Club; Barrie Police Service; Barrie Trojan Swim Club; Dimpflmeier Bakery; Investors Group Barrie York Simcoe; Masonic Kempenfeldt Lodge 673; Purolator; Robbie's Rainbow; Saint Elizabeth Health Care; Simcoe County Brokers Association; and Quesnel Construction.

The event resulted in the collection of 7,438 pounds of food.

"We are thrilled to have increased the number of organizations committed to stopping hunger in our community for this year's event.  We had 12 incredible organizations that have adopted a beetle for the day.  This was our biggest event yet," said Cindy DeCarlo, director of sales of the Best Western Royal Oak Inn
