Break Creek student to get medal Friday from MP

Bear Creek Secondary School student Madison Ford will be presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Ford will receive her medal during a ceremony at the south-end high school on Friday.

Barrie MP Patrick Brown will make the presentation on behalf of Minister of Veterans Affairs Steven Blaney.

The teen is an avid history buff and was one of many Barrie students who honoured Canadian soldiers last spring as they marched along the streets of London, England and through Canada Gate to Green Park where a ceremony at the Canada Memorial paid tribute to fallen soldiers.

Along with other students, Ford toured the frontlines and battlefields of Europe to learn more about the lives of soldiers during the 95th anniversary tour of Vimy Ridge.

The ceremony takes place at 10:40 a.m.
