A family has been left homeless after their garage caught fire in south Barrie, Sunday morning.

The homeowner came home to find his house on fire and alerted the other two members of his family around 10 a.m., said Platoon Chief Len Mitchell of Barrie Fire and Emergency Services.

“He woke everybody up and got them out,” Mitchell said.

The home near Broadmoor and Meadowland avenues sustained about $200,000 damage, mostly to the garage and roof, said Mitchell.

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
