Vehicle struck by train Tuesday

Police have identified the man who was killed by a train early Tuesday morning in Severn Township as Paul Cooper, 62, of Fenelon Township.

At about 2 a.m., Orillia OPP responded to the scene of a collision between a Canadian Pacific (CP) train and a vehicle in the area of Upper Big Chute Road and White Pines Road just south of Severn Falls.

The Orillia OPP's crime unit is continuing to investigate to try and determine why the vehicle was on the tracks.

The vehicle was on the tracks when it was struck by the northbound train. The driver was the lone occupant in the vehicle.

A post-mortem has been completed. The incident was reported by CP.
