Senior hit on Bayfield Street

QMI Agency

An elderly woman was taken to hospital after being struck by a car on Bayfield Street, Wednesday morning.

Barrie Police Const. Mark Casey said the 82-year-old woman was struck while she was crossing at the intersection in front of Georgian Mall, just north of Livingston Street, around 10 a.m.

Casey said witnesses at the scene indicated the woman was crossing against the light at the intersection as she walked northbound on Bayfield Street.

As paramedics placed the woman in an ambulance and took her to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Casey said he was unsure of the extent of her injuries.

"Because of her age, they might be a little more serious," he said.

Police are investigating.
