Passenger detected drug odour 0
A cabbie was charged with driving while impaired by drug Monday evening in Barrie.
City police received a 5 p.m. call from a fare who had been picked up by a taxi in the downtown. While headed to the destination, the passenger detected a fresh odour of marijuana on the cabbie, and said his driving seemed off.
Officers stopped the taxi a short time later at Duckworth Plaza and determined the cabbie's ability to drive was impaired.
A 52-year-old man was arrested and he was taken to the police station, where he was charged with impaired driving. He was later released with a court date.
SLEEPING IT OFF
The Five Points was no place for a man to sleep it off, Monday morning. According to Barrie police, officers were patrolling Dunlop Street when a man was found slumped over on a sidewalk around 8 a.m.
Police learned the man was extremely intoxicated and held him until he sobered up. A 54-year-old man has been charged with public intoxication.
THIEF NABBED
A man should have paid for his merchandise before leaving a south-end store, Monday.
According to Barrie police, security at Canadian Tire on Mapleview Drive spotted a man stealing items around 1 p.m.
Officers arrived and confirmed the man stolen approximately $100 in goods. A 23-year-old man has been charged with theft and faces a future court date.
