The Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce's annual Santa Claus Parade and Downtown Barrie Tree Lighting ceremony was a huge success with thousands of people making the trip to Barrie's downtown Saturday night to partake in one of the season's greatest events. Mark Wanzel/The Barrie Examiner/QMI
The grand old elf himself returned to Barrie Saturday night in grand style, as the 16th annual Santa Claus parade, sponsored by the Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce.
About 40 floats by not-for-profit and commercial entries (not just chamber members), as well several marching bands and a steel band playing on a float, wound their way through the downtown.
The fun was topped off with the 37th annual tree-lighting at Memorial Square and fireworks organized by Downtown Barrie BIA.
Parade visitors also got the chance to check out The Festival of Trees, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Barrie, which has transformed Centennial Park and portions of the waterfront into a winter wonderland.
