To illustrate the extent that players were lining up to play for Canada this year, Kevin Lowe explained the phone call he received while waiting for a phone call.

"Jason Spezza wants to come," he said of the Ottawa Senators star who, despite having played in Game 7 against the New York Rangers on Thursday, wanted to join the team.

Lowe, the GM of Team Canada, was waiting for a call from his assistant general manager, Davis Nonis, on the last remaining forward offered a position, a player awaiting results of a medical believed to be Tyler Seguin.

Lowe also needs to add a third-string goaltender to have a complete team of 23.

Corey Perry, Duncan Keith, Patrick Sharp and Marc-Edouard Vlasic are scheduled to arrive Saturday and Ryan Getzlaf, due to a family commitment, will join the team next week in Helsinki.

John Tavares and Ryan O'Reilly joined the team Friday as did Luke Schenn, but his equipment bag did not.

Meanwhile Lowe met with Oilers associate coach Ralph Kruger, longtime Swiss national coach, and arranged for him to be a special consultant to the team.

"He has tons of experience and spent four hours meeting with our coaches today," said Lowe, who has Oilers' trainer T.D. Forss working with Colorado Avalanche trainer Matthew Sokolowski and Oilers' equipment manager Jeff Lang working with Scott Boggs of the New York Islanders in addition to the Hockey Canada support staff.
