Lazy Tulip Cafe/Soulful soup and sandwiches
Why is one of Barrie's newest dining establishments called Lazy Tulip Cafe? It's just a name that sounded right for what owners Michelle Huggins and Matthew Jones were trying to achieve.
"We call ourselves a soulful soup and sandwich joint," said Huggins who, like her partner, has a background in restaurants.
The bright, cheerful cafe, at 29 Maple Ave. near the bus station in downtown Barrie, opened a month ago with an official opening scheduled for April 21.
One special feature is create-your-own crepes with customers being able to choose from a variety of fillings from chocolate to peppers to bananas to scrambled eggs. There will be daily specials, both sweet and savoury.
Other items on the menu include quiche, a variety of sandwiches, panini, wraps, home-made soup and salads. Dessert highlights include Matt's home-made cheesecake with a different type available each week.
The cafe features vegetarian-friendly items and gluten-free selections, organic coffee and free wi-fi.
The Lazy Tulip Cafe is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Takeout available. Catering coming soon. Call 705-252-0910, or visit www.lazytulipcafe.com.
