BENDUS GETS AN INVITE

(STAFF) -- Vicki Bendus is no stranger to women's hockey at the international level.

So it should also come as no surprise that the Wasaga Beach native has been named to Canada's selection camp roster for the 2012 IIHF women's world championship.

The five-foot-two, 110-pound winger currently plays for Brampton in the Canadian Women's Hockey League, where she has 11 goals and 20 points in 21 games.

Bendus, who turns 23 in April, had an extremely successful college career south of the border playing for Mercyhurst College.

The selection camp takes place March 26 to April 1 in Ottawa, leading up to the women's championship, which is being held this year in Burlington, Vt.

The 29-player camp roster includes three goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 16 forwards, including 18 returnees from the team that claimed silver at the 2011 IIHF women's world championship in Switzerland last April.

The selection camp will include exhibition games against midget 'AAA' boys teams, as well as a pre-competition game between Canada and the United States on Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. at the Ottawa Civic Centre.
