Grizzlies upset Bruins
OTTAWA - The Georgian Grizzlies overcame a 14-point half-time deficit to upset the No. 6- ranked Sheridan Bruins 69-66 in quarter-final action at the OCAA men's basketball provincial championships in Ottawa.
Georgian trailed 42-28 at the half, but outscored the Bruins 22-7 in the third quarter to take a one-point lead heading into the final period. A 14-2 run by Sheridan put the Bruins up 63-60, but Georgian refused to fold. After a couple of tough defensive stands, a pair of buckets by Shane Rowe gave the lead back to the Grizzlies for good.
Rowe led Georgian with 27 points and 18 rebounds, while Tevin Goodridge added 13 points, and was solid defensively covering Sheridan's top scorer. Nolan Knill scored 10 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
Klalid Abdel-Gabar was top scorer for Sheridan with 19 points.
Georgian held Sheridan to 33% shooting in the contest.
The Grizzlies will play in the semi-finals Friday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Centennial-Mohawk quarter-final game.
