Laser was pointed at OPP helicopter by mistake 0
(QMI)- The parties responsible for directing a laser beam at an OPP helicopter last week in Severn Township have come forward.
After learning that police were investigating the incident, a family contacted the police offering a Mea culpa, according to the Orillia OPP.
"The people that were responsible contacted us and advised they had just bought (a laser pointer) and that they were having a family bonfire outside and one of the younger children was using it, pointing it up to the sky," Const. Shannon Petryshyn said. "When they realized, they wanted to let us know that there was no intent and now they know for the future."
Under the Criminal Code, the individual could also face charges of mischief endangering a life and assault with a weapon.
The Aeronautics Act also holds several charges in relation to flashing a laser beam at an aircraft.
Since there was no criminal intent, no charges were laid, Petryshyn said.
