The Georgian Grizzlies' quest for second place and a direct bye to the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association championships fell short Tuesday night, as the Seneca Sting defeated Georgian 42-33 in the OCAA women's basketball regular-season finale for both teams.

Danielle Horvat scored 12 points and Dana Marley added 10 for the Grizzlies, who were held to their lowest offensive output of the season.

The teams were tied 16-16 at half-time.

Georgian finishes the year in third place with an 11-5 record and will now host an OCAA crossover playoff game on Saturday at 6 p.m., against the Fanshawe Falcons.

The winner of that game will advance to the OCAA championship at Algonquin College, March 3-5.

Meanwhile, in men's basketball, the Seneca Sting put an end to the Grizzlies' playoff hopes with a 72-60 victory Tuesday at the Newnham gym on the Seneca campus.

The Grizzlies, needing a victory to stay alive in the playoff race, trailed the Sting by only two points, 33-31 at half-time, but in the second half, the deeper Seneca bench took over and the Grizzlies simply ran out of gas.

Joshua Ross led Georgian with 16 points in his final game as a Grizzly.

Georgian finishes the year with a 9-11 record.
