NDP picking federal rep Wednesday 0
(STAFF) - Barrie's federal NDP members will chose a candidate Wednesday night for the next federal election.
Paul Wessenger, president of the Barrie Federal New Democratic Party Riding Association, has announced that a nomination meeting will be held at the Lampman Lane Community Centre, located at 59 Lampman Lane in Barrie's west end.
Myrna Clark, the Barrie NDP candidate in the 2008 federal election, is expected to seek the nomination.
Andrea Horwath, who was elected as the provincial NDP leader in March, will be the guest speaker before the nominations are accepted.
Since her election as leader, Horwath has raised issues, including rural health-care shortages, child care, affordable housing and unemployment.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. with Horwath's presentation, followed by the federal nomination meeting at 8 p.m.
For more information, call Paul Wessenger at 728-8000.
In the Simcoe-Grey riding, west of Barrie, the riding association has announced that Katy Austin, a retired elementary schoolteacher, was chosen as their federal candidate at a Sept. 28 meeting.
